CHCS Guide: Navigating the Support at Home (SAH) Program

Supporting you to live safely, independently, and with dignity.
The Australian Government is introducing the new Support at Home (SAH) Program, replacing Home Care Packages (HCP) and Short-Term Restorative Care (STRC). At CHCS, we are committed to making this transition seamless for you.
What is the Support at Home Program?
This new program is designed to be more flexible and transparent. It aims to help you:
- Stay living safely at home for as long as possible.
- Access care through a system that is easier to navigate.
- Receive services that grow and change as your needs do.
What Services are Available?
Under the SAH program, CHCS provides services across four main pillars:
- Everyday Living: Domestic assistance, meal prep, and shopping.
- Personal & Clinical Care: Showering, dressing, nursing, and allied health (Physio/OT).
- Independence & Safety: Assistive technology, home mods, and mobility support.
- Short-Term Supports: Post-hospital care and restorative support.
What is Changing?
- Quarterly Budgets: Instead of annual packages, you will have a budget every three months.
- 8 Classification Levels: Replacing the old 4 levels to better match your specific needs.
- No Fees for Clinical Care: Nursing and allied health services are now fully government-funded.
- Management Fee Caps: Provider fees are now more strictly regulated for fairness.
What is Staying the Same?
At CHCS, our care for you remains our top priority. You will still have complete choice and control over your care, and you will continue to live in the comfort of your own home.
How is CHCS Preparing?
We are working hard behind the scenes to ensure a smooth move to the new system by:
- Updating our systems to meet the new Government requirements.
- Training our diverse staff on the SAH service categories.
- Reviewing your care plan to ensure you receive your full entitlements.
